Sumitomo Drive Technologies Showcases Services at Maintenance Antwerp 2024
Maintenance solutions rooted in decades of experience in drive technology
Edegem (Belgium) / Markt Indersdorf (Edegem), March 14th, 2024
Sumitomo Drive Technologies will present its service offerings in drive technology at Maintenance Antwerp 2024, taking place from March 20 to 21 in Belgium, Hall 3, Booth 3008. With decades of experience in the development and manufacturing of drive systems, Sumitomo Drive Technologies offers a comprehensive range of maintenance solutions – both for its own gearboxes (with and without the cycloidal principle) and for gearboxes from other manufacturers.
On-Site Repair Saves Time and Costs
The spotlight of Sumitomo Drive Technologies at the Maintenance Antwerp exhibition is on the benefits of "On-Site Repair." Repairing on-site eliminates the time for transporting the defective gearbox to the workshop and back. This minimizes machine downtime, reducing production outage times and overall repair costs. Sumitomo Drive Technologies' On-Site Repair allows for quick responses to unforeseen issues and the flexibility to adjust repair plans as needed, improving maintenance flexibility.
With dedicated service teams in 6 countries across EMEIA, Sumitomo Drive Technologies has an extensive network to be close to regional customer requirements worldwide. The company's experts also provide training for employees within the company to optimally maintain, service, and repair their facilities themselves.
Sustainable Operation of Industrial Gearboxes
As an application example, Sumitomo Drive Technologies showcases at the booth a 900-kilogram industrial gearbox, the Hansen P4, which, with regular maintenance, reliably operates for up to 40 years in various applications. With Hansen Industrial Transmissions NV (HIT) in Edegem, Belgium, Sumitomo Drive Technologies has over a century of innovation and expertise within its corporate family. HIT celebrated its company anniversary last year, delivering and maintaining industrial gearboxes for key industries such as material handling, energy, environment, and specialized applications worldwide.
Sumitomo Drive Technologies' drive packages complement Lafert electric motors and Invertek frequency inverters – a combination promising energy usage according to the latest standards and highest efficiency classes. The service business of Sumitomo Drive Technologies is also geared towards the sustainable operation of all drives, offering repairs and spare parts to refurbish drives instead of replacing them entirely.
Hands-On Experience with the Cycloidal Principle
At the booth in Hall 3, 3008, visitors have the opportunity to experience and understand the Cycloidal principle through practical experimentation with a model. This principle allows for high torque while maintaining smooth and vibration-free operation.
Although Cycloidal gearboxes may appear complex at first glance, their construction is remarkably simple. The roots of this groundbreaking principle trace back to the German inventor and designer Lorenz Braren in the early 20th century. In 1938, Lorenz Braren formed a technical alliance with Sumitomo, one of the oldest and largest economic groups in Japan, which eventually acquired the Munich-based company in the early 1990s. Thus, Sumitomo Drive Technologies is the pioneer of Cycloidal technology, developing pioneering products throughout its corporate history, from compact and reliable precision gears to industrial gearboxes, complete drive solutions, and a service business that consolidates decades of innovative drive technology.
