Sumitomo Drive Technologies will showcase a diverse range of its drive solutions for robotics and automation at SPS Italia in Parma from May 28th to 30th, alongside the Lafert Group. Highlighted at Booth M020 in Hall 5 will be the Tuaka and Smartris drive solutions, renowned for their compactness and flexibility. Another standout feature is the BBB H IE5 drive package, meeting the highest energy efficiency standards. Visitors can also experience a new variant of the DA gear series and explore the new modular features of precision gears.

Flexible Drive Solutions for Automation and Robotics
Sumitomo Drive Technologies presents Smartris, a particularly compact plug-and-play solution for driving Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) and Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs). The Smartris drive package is a collaborative development between Sumitomo Drive Technologies and the Lafert Group, combining three components: Cyclo gears, servo motors, and drive controllers. Available in three sizes and various configurations, the AGV/AMR solution is ideal for use in tight spaces, narrow aisles, and small facilities.
Tuaka is a fully integrated drive with high-resolution encoders, integrated torque sensors, and advanced safety features. This allows companies to flexibly build and program any type of robot or cobot application. The backlash-free precision gears ensure the high accuracy of Tuaka, which was awarded the Hermes Award. At SPS Italia, industry professionals can witness this in action with a 3-axis robot demonstration.
Complete Solution for Highest Energy Efficiency Class
The BBB H IE5 drive package (Ultra Premium IE5 energy efficiency class) exemplifies drive efficiency at the exhibition stand. This drive solution combines bevel helical gearboxes, Lafert motors, and Invertek frequency inverters. The individual components are harmonized to achieve the highest energy savings and compactness in high-speed solutions, such as baggage conveyors at airports, parcel sorting in logistics centers, or automatic storage systems.
Compactness Paired with Modularity
At the core of Sumitomo Drive Technologies' gearbox solutions for robotics and automation is the Fine-Cyclo gear series. Featured at the trade show is the latest and smallest model of the Fine-Cyclo DA gear series, with an outer diameter of 110 mm. The DA 10 stands out for its compact design and high power density. It is specifically designed for applications requiring backlash-free operation, compactness, and high torque density, such as in robotics, machine tools, or medical technology. Like all gearboxes in the precision gear series, the DA 10 can be easily mounted to almost any motor thanks to a modular system, enabling shorter lead times and flexibility in selecting various motor combinations.
ECY: New Generation of Precision Gearboxes series 2
Sumitomo Drive Technologies will present the new generation of the ECY (Cyclo) precision gearbox series at SPS Italia 2024. This product is designed for use in confined spaces and combines the benefits of the 'flex spline' gearbox operating principle with Cyclo gearbox technology. The generation, referred to as series 2, was launched in the early months of 2024 and will set new industry standards. Following a significant evolution of internal components, a 30% increase in performance compared to the previous series model has been achieved.
Additionally, the concept of modularity has been introduced to the ECY series. Thanks to a flexible input system developed for this model, connecting a motor is now extremely simple.
