This Career Portal is operated by Sumitomo Heavy Industries (Europe) B.V., Handelsweg 53, Office A208, Amstelveen, the Netherlands (“SHI EUROPE”). SHI EUROPE is a service provider for all European companies of Sumitomo Heavy Industries Ltd – a global manufacturer of a wide range of excellent machinery products with headquarters in Tokyo/Japan. We have established contracts with all European companies of Sumitomo Heavy Industries we may share your data with based on the joint controllership principle.

Data Collection 

SHI EUROPE collects personal data from job applicants primarily through Workday, our online career portal. Based on the applicable legislation regarding the protection of personal data, including the General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”), SHI EUROPE collects your data as your name, contact information, professional qualifications, work history, and education. 

Additionally, we may collect data from publicly available sources and through third-party recruitment agencies with whom you have shared your information and who have your consent to pass it on to us. 

Purpose of Data Processing 

The personal data you provide as part of the application process will be used solely for the purpose of evaluating your qualifications for the position you have applied for and communicating with you about your application status. Here, the legal base for processing your data is GDPR Art. 6 para 1 lit f) “Legitimate Interest”.

Data Access and Sharing 

Access to your personal data is restricted to our human resources staff and the hiring managers involved in the recruitment process. We may also share your data with third-party service providers who assist us in the recruitment process. All third parties are required by contract to keep your personal data confidential and secure and to use it only as permitted by us. 

Data Storage and Security 

Your personal data will be stored on secure servers and will only be kept as long as necessary for the recruitment process, or as required by law. For unsuccessful candidates, we typically retain the data for a period of 6 months after the application process has been finished.

We may ask you for your consent according to GDPR Art. 6 para 1 lit a) to keep your application data longer, e.g., for 2 years, to consider you for potential future opportunities. We employ robust technical and organizational security measures to protect your data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.

 

Candidate Rights 

As a job applicant, you have the right to access, correct, or request the deletion of your personal data at any time. You also have the right to object to the processing of your data and to withdraw your consent where consent is the basis of processing.  

 

SHI EUROPE will always use best efforts to address and settle any requests or complaints you bring to its attention.
